Mindful Moment:Taking a Shower

A daily shower is the perfect opportunity to slow down and reconnect with yourself.

To turn your shower into a mindful ritual, try the following:

If you haven't already, check out my Aromatherapy section to find a scent to help!

1. Set an intention

Before stepping into the shower, take a moment to pause. Decide to be fully present and use this time to care for your body and mind.

2. Take a deep breath

Inhale slowly through your nose… and exhale through your mouth. Let this breath signal your shift into mindfulness.

3. Feel the water

As the water touches your skin, notice:

  • The temperature: is it warm, cool, hot?
  • The sensation: how does it feel as it flows over different parts of your body?
  • The pressure: is it soft and gentle or strong and invigorating?

4. Notice your movements

Bring awareness to how you move:

  • The way your hands reach for the shampoo or soap.
  • How your arms stretch and move.
  • The rhythm of washing and rinsing.

5. Tune into your senses

  • Smell the scent of your shampoo or body wash.
  • Listen to the sound of water hitting your skin and the tiles.
  • Watch the steam rise or droplets run down the walls.
  • Feel the slipperiness of soap and the cleansing sensation as you rinse.

6. Be kind in your thoughts

If your mind drifts to your to-do list or worries, that’s okay. Gently bring it back to your body, your breath, and the sensations of the shower.

7. Close with gratitude

As you finish, take one more deep breath and offer a small moment of thanks to your body, to the water, to this brief space in your day to pause.

Let your shower be a reset button. A chance to be here, now.

Want to take it further?

You could deepen this experience by intentionally choosing a scent that supports your mood. A zingy citrus body wash to awaken, or a grounding lavender oil to calm.
